Our Projects

As stated in our mission statement, we are adaptable and solution focused when it comes to our ever-changing water needs in our community. Grants and loans have made it possible for us to act on those needs, and they surface as various kinds of projects that will help us live with water security for years to come.

Smart Water Meters

Wenden DWID was awarded a Water Conservation Grant administered through the Water Infrastructure Finance Authority of Arizona on February 27, 2024 in the amount of $180,000.

The grant is for the replacement of all mechanical water meters in the water district with digital Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters commonly referred to as smart meters.  The information systems in these meters provides near real-time data directly to the office.

Wenden Wastewater Treatment Project

Please choose only one response regarding your opinion on this project.
Centralized wastewater treatment plant using gravity piping.
Pre-treated wastewater from existing septic tanks to centralized treatment plant using low-pressure piping.
Multiple community drainfield treatment systems using septic tanks and low pressure piping.
Hybrid approach by location. Option 2 to the south and Option 3 to the north of the highway.
Baseline (continuation with use of residential onsite septic tanks and residential drainfields) – may not be sustainable because of the failing condition of the existing septic systems and small size of parcels.

Wenden has received a grant from the EPA to investigate the feasibility of creating a a centralized wastewater treatment system.  The initial work is now completed in the form of a Preliminary Engineering Report.  While the department conducted a live feedback session with the public several months ago, it is time to get additional feedback from the community on the subject.  For that purpose, we have prepared, with the help of our partners, a flyer and a video explaining the results of the project for further consideration.
